Basketball Coach
With a career spanning over 20 years in basketball, Kelvin Scarborough has played basketball professionally in Mexico, Asia, Indonesia, and Australia. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Communication and a minor in Family Studies from the University of New Mexico (UNM). At UNM Scarborough played for the Lobos team with star power, establishing his legendary status as one of the top 12 scoring Lobos of all time, all-time leading steal leader, a school-record of 21 assists in one game, a 1,000-point club member. After graduating from UNM, Scarborough created the New Mexico All Stars and Positive Program. The NM All Stars program builds self-esteem through clinics for basketball, sports camps statewide, and outreach prevention from gangs, HIV-Aids, drugs, and alcohol. Often these programs are free, or discounted so that all students can be included no matter their socioeconomic background. Apart of his Risk Reduction Program, Scarborough has visited 14 reservations for over two decades promoting key areas for Native American youth: 1. prevention, 2. exercise and fitness, 3. basketball camps, and 4. healthy nutrition. In 2007 Kelvin was selected as a semi-finalist for the Volvo for Life Awards, which recognizes him as one of the top five local, everyday heroes in New Mexico.
Dedicating a 100% of himself to young athletes in New Mexico, Scarborough, also known as Coach K, is the Head Varsity Boys basketball coach at Menaul School. He led the team to their District 2 1A championship title in 2011.
