Financial Aid

Since its founding in 1896, Menaul School has maintained a long-standing commitment to provide need-based financial aid. While Menaul School recognizes that each family bears the primary responsibility for financing a student’s education, each year financial aid is awarded to students who otherwise would not have the financial means to attend an independent school. We believe the opportunity for qualified students to attend Menaul School should not be limited by family financial circumstances. Financial aid funds at Menaul School are reserved for families who have no alternative to requesting aid. In the administration of its financial aid program, Menaul School does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, national origin, or sexual orientation.

School & Student Services by NAIS (SSS)

Menaul School is a member of the School & Student Services by NAIS (SSS) which assists independent schools in determining a family’s financial need. All aid is awarded on the basis of documented financial need as demonstrated through the SSS Financial Aid Program. Financial aid applicants are required to submit the Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS) and all supporting documents to SSS for processing.

Using the information submitted to SSS, a Report of Family Contribution (RFC) is computed and sent to Menaul School to be reviewed by the Financial Aid Committee. The RFC serves only as a guideline in making financial aid decisions and does not bind Menaul School to any specific award. Financial aid is awarded only if a student is admitted to Menaul School.

Financial Aid Process

All families applying for financial aid must submit a completed Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS), provided by School & Student Services by NAIS (SSS). The PFS must be completed online. In addition to completing the PFS, you will also need to submit to SSS (either by mail or electronically) a copy of your signed 2010 IRS Form 1040 tax return including ALL schedules and attachments filed with the 1040, all W-2 forms, and, if applicable, partnerships and S corporation returns. The PFS, and all required tax documents, must be submitted to SSS by February 24, 2012. There is no need to submit a copy of these documents directly to Menaul School.

Additionally, families applying for financial aid must complete IRS Form 4506-T, which authorizes the IRS to send Menaul School a summary of the information you provided on your tax return. Please do not put a date on this form. If needed, Menaul School will mail it directly to the IRS from the Financial Aid Office. Please send this form directly to Menaul School.
