Domestic Day Financial Aid 2013-2014
Since its founding in 1896, Menaul School has maintained a long-standing commitment to provide need-based financial aid. While Menaul School recognizes that each family bears the primary responsibility for financing a student's education, each year financial aid is awarded to students who otherwise would not have the financial means to attend an independent school. We believe the opportunity for qualified students to attend Menaul School should not be limited by family financial circumstances. Financial aid funds at Menaul School are reserved for families who have no alternative to requesting aid. In the administration of its financial aid program, Menaul School does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, national origin, or sexual orientation.
School & Student Services by NAIS (SSS)
Menaul School is a member of the School & Student Services by NAIS (SSS by NAIS) which assists independent schools in determining a family's financial need. All aid is awarded on the basis of documented financial need as demonstrated through the SSS by NAIS Financial Aid Program. Financial aid applicants are required to submit the Parents' Financial Statement (PFS) online to SSS by NAIS, as well as uploading all supporting documents directly to SSS.
Using the information submitted to SSS by NAIS, a Report of Family Contribution (RFC) is computed and sent to Menaul School to be reviewed by the Financial Aid Committee. The RFC serves only as a guideline in making financial aid decisions and does not bind Menaul School to any specific award. Financial aid is awarded only if a student is admitted to Menaul School.
Financial Aid Process
All families applying for financial aid must submit a completed Parents' Financial Statement (PFS), provided by School & Student Services by NAIS (SSS by NAIS), online, as well as uploading all supporting documents; a copy of your signed 2012 IRS Form 1040 tax return, including ALL schedules and attachments filed with the 1040, all W-2 forms, and, if applicable, partnerships and S corporation returns. The PFS, and all required tax documents, must be submitted by February 22, 2013. You must submit these documents directly to SSS by NAIS, not to Menaul School.
Additionally, families applying for financial aid must complete IRS Form 4506-T, which authorizes the IRS to send Menaul School a summary of the information you provided on your tax return. Please do not put a date on this form. If needed, Menaul School will mail it directly to the IRS from the Financial Aid Office. Please send this form directly to SSS by NAIS.
Please read our Financial Aid Information and the Financial Aid Application Process to assist you with completing your application. Please read all documents carefully. There are application procedures and deadlines that must be followed in order to recieve an award. You may also contact Rodney Grilliot, Director of Day Admission, with any questions.
