Gus Brock Hired to Lead Panther Football Program

Posted August 11, 2014

He’s BAAACK!  Coach Gus Brock has been hired to lead the Menaul School football program - again.

Coach Brock follows Head Coach/Athletic Director, Jeff Strohecker, who resigned after 8 years of service to Menaul to pursue a teaching/coaching opportunity with Cibola High School.

Coach Brock has over 35 years of coaching experience with teams in Kansas, Missouri, New Mexico, and Arizona.  He led the Panther football program for 16 years, from 1982 to 1998, winning a state title in 1991.  He was selected by the New Mexico Coaches Association to serve as a head coach for three All-Star games and was honored in 2005 for 150 wins as a New Mexico varsity football coach.

Menaul School President and Head of School Lindsey Gilbert believes that “Menaul is very fortunate to have found someone with both the football knowledge AND the history with Menaul that Coach Brock brings to the table.  We are honored that Coach Brock has agreed to once again lead the Panther football program.  This is a great story!”

The Menaul School community is happy to welcome Gus Brock and his wife back to our sidelines.

Now Accepting H.C. Donaldson Award Nominations

Posted March 12, 2014

THE 2014 HARPER C. DONALDSON OUTSTANDING ALUMNI AWARD will be presented at Menaul School’s Honors Night, Thursday, May 22nd at 6:00 p.m. and recognized at Graduation.  All alumni are encouraged to submit a nomination for an alumnus or alumna whose life exemplifies the values of Menaul School.  Submissions must be received electronically by or postmarked by April 15th to be considered for the 2014 award.

During Mr. Donaldson’s 37-year tenure at Menaul School, many young men and women were beneficiaries of an academic, spiritual and sportsmanship education that led many alumni to illustrious careers in law, medicine, the arts, science, government, the ministry and entrepreneurship.  Students respected his straight-forward manner, his optimism about the future of Menaul and his deep concern for the success of each student.  Mr. Harper C. Donaldson exemplified humility in leadership and in the striving for an education for life.  The financial status of student applicants, their race and their religion was never a question as long as a student made a sincere effort to learn in a Christian environment.  Mr. Donaldson embodied the Menaul School spirit - ¡Sea la Luz! - making it possible for the light of knowledge, respect for the dignity of all God’s people and an awareness of one’s responsibility to serve others to touch the lives of all who knew him.

The Harper C. Donaldson Outstanding Alumni Award was established in 1999 to honor his memory.  Each year, the award is presented to an alumnus or alumna of outstanding achievement and commitment to the values and support of Menaul School.
