Menaul School Teach-Intern Program

Menaul School is seeking recent college graduates or graduate students interested in working under supervision to develop the varied skills required of secondary boarding school teachers.

The Menaul School Teach-Intern Program offers as wide an exposure as possible to all aspects of life at Menaul School.  Interns will have the opportunity to participate in mission-critical projects at an urban, international boarding school in the Southwest while serving on the front lines as they participate in the unique and exciting work of fostering students from across the globe. 

The Intern’s responsibilities will include supervised teaching under the guidance of an experienced member of the faculty and assisting with or observation of other classes.  Interns also help coach athletics, assist in dormitory supervision and activities and participate in other areas of school life commensurate with their interests and talents.

Menaul School is a 6-12 independent, co-educational school whose mission is to prepare students to succeed in mind, body and spirit with historical connections to the Presbyterian Church. Menaul School operates an upper school and a middle school on a fully functional 30-acre campus near downtown Albuquerque, NM that includes classroom buildings, an auditorium, arts facilities, and gymnasiums. In addition, the school employs a dedicated and talented middle school teaching staff and is in the second year of an innovative iPad program.

Teach-Intern appointments are ten month (August to June) positions.  Interns receive a monthly stipend along with living quarters and meals in the school cafeteria.  Teaching areas open to interns are the Sciences, English, History, Religion & Mathematics.

Part-Time ESL Teacher

Menaul School is seeking a highly qualified and energetic teacher of English as a Second Language. The successful applicant will teach two classes per day in a new Intensive English semester-long program for incoming international students. The program includes instruction in the social sciences and the laboratory sciences as well as written and spoken English. In addition, there will be ample opportunities to substitute teach both in the Intensive English program and in the traditional school. In this inaugural year of the program, we are expecting eight to ten students in the Intensive English Semester program.

Requirements for the position:

  • TESOL certification or bachelor’s degree or higher in the teaching of English to English language learners
  • Experience working with peoples from Asia, especially China
  • Flexibility regarding daily schedule
  • Minimum of two years working with English language learners
  • A desire to work in a collaborative team whose goal is student success

Preferred qualifications:

  • Fluency in Mandarin
  • At least five years’ experience teaching ESL
  • Understanding of social and laboratory science terminology and concepts
  • Willingness to substitute for absent teachers
  • A desire to coach or sponsor other activities, especially with our international students

Salary for the position will depend on the experience and qualifications of the candidate; however, the salary is competitive and the school compensates staff for additional duties.

English Teacher

Menaul School with its partner school in China is seeking a highly qualified English teacher to teach ESL and regular English courses in its innovative Dual Diploma Program in Weifang, Shangdon province, China.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree (Master Degree preferred) or above in English or English Literature
  • At least 2-years full-time ESL teaching experience to grade 6-12 students
  • Capable of teaching American Literature and English Literature
  • Holder of TEFL/TESOL or any other internationally recognize teaching certificate
  • Responsible, well-organized, and patient
