Residential Life Coordinator

Menaul School in Albuquerque, New Mexico, is seeking an experienced Residential Life Coordinator who will oversee our growing boarding program.  Menaul School is a 6-12 independent, co-educational school whose mission is to prepare students to succeed in mind, body and spirit with historical connections to the Presbyterian Church. Menaul School operates a day (6 – 12) and boarding school (9 – 12) on a fully functional 30-acre campus near downtown Albuquerque, NM that includes classroom buildings, an auditorium, arts facilities, and gymnasiums.

Job Description:

Summary: The primary objective of this position is to create an excellent residential life program by providing positive leadership to boarding students, house parents, faculty, and staff by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:

  1. Reports to the Upper School Director
  2. Oversees all activities and logistics related to boarding students
  3. Provides administrative oversight for the school’s residential program, including registration and orientation for boarding students.
  4. Directly supervises all house parents, associates, volunteers and transportation related to the Boarding Program.
  5. Coordinates with the Upper School Dean, Counselor(s), and the School Chaplain to handle major and minor discipline issues, health issues, and other student concerns.
  6. Coordinates with the Director of Business and Finance and the Facilities Manager to oversee the procurement, maintenance, and care of the residential dorms.
  7. Oversees all weekend activities, including weekend coverage for faculty duty teams, and vacation travel.
  8. Ensures that all boarding students are familiar with the code of conduct as outlined in the Student Parent Handbook & Residential Handbook.  Enforces rules and policies as outlined in the Handbooks pertaining to boarders.
  9. Is a resource for students, faculty, administration and staff for all matters related to student conduct, safety and well-being, particularly with regards to boarding students.
  10. Leads weekly house parent meetings and proactively develops programs for professional development for house parents throughout the year. These opportunities promote leadership skills, core values and student safety and well-being.
  11. Annually updates the Residential Handbook and ensures that all house parents have a clear understanding of the procedure and protocols that provide for the well-being of all boarding students.
  12. Serves as a relief and substitute house parent. Duties include weekend evenings, which require availability Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The Director participates in certain overnight activities, professional development and other professional development, faculty meetings, travel and special events.
  13. Teach and/or coach in areas of expertise as assigned.
  14. Duties and responsibilities may be modified from time to time and additional duties may be assigned.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. An individual must be able to accept and assume assigned responsibilities and make responsible decisions when required.

Education and/or Experience: Minimum Bachelor Degree in related discipline. Higher degree preferred.

Menaul Upper School Science Teacher

Menaul School, an independent day and boarding school for grades 6-12 with a rich Presbyterian heritage, is seeking a highly qualified candidate to join its Upper School Science faculty for the 2015-2016 academic year. Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in science and a dedication to cultivating the minds, bodies, and spirits of adolescents. Also required is the desire to teach comprehensive and sequenced Biology, Chemistry, and/or Physics courses using demonstrations and experiments extensively. A master’s degree and teaching experience are distinctly preferred, as is a willingness to mentor and advise students and sponsor student activities. Additional expectations of the job include an eagerness to work with other faculty members in collaborative efforts, the willingness to learn and frequently use the school’s digital software program and resources, the ability to reach a variety of adolescent minds, and the willingness to become part of a community.

Menaul School Part-time English as a Second Language Instructor

Menaul School, an independent day and boarding school for grades 6-12 with a rich Presbyterian heritage, is seeking a highly qualified candidate to join its Upper School English as a Second Language (ESL) faculty as a part-time teacher for the 2015-2016 academic year. Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in ESL or the equivalent and a dedication to cultivating the minds, bodies, and spirits of adolescents. Also required is the desire to teach comprehensive and successful ESL courses using interactive and innovative methods. The successful candidate will teach two to three classes daily, ranging from Beginning ESL to ESL English Composition. The position may include other responsibilities, such as participating in the school’s sheltered instruction program or leading activities with our boarding students. A master’s degree, teaching experience, and fluency in Mandarin are distinctly preferred. Additional expectations of the job include an eagerness to work with other faculty members in collaborative efforts, the willingness to learn and frequently use the school’s digital software program and resources, the ability to reach a variety of adolescent minds, and the willingness to become part of a community.

Menaul School Teach-Intern Program

Menaul School is seeking recent college graduates or graduate students interested in working under supervision to develop the varied skills required of secondary boarding school teachers.

The Menaul School Teach-Intern Program offers as wide an exposure as possible to all aspects of life at Menaul School.  Interns will have the opportunity to participate in mission-critical projects at an urban, international boarding school in the Southwest while serving on the front lines as they participate in the unique and exciting work of fostering students from across the globe. 

The Intern’s responsibilities will include supervised teaching under the guidance of an experienced member of the faculty and assisting with or observation of other classes.  Interns also help coach athletics, assist in dormitory supervision and activities and participate in other areas of school life commensurate with their interests and talents.

Menaul School operates an upper school and a middle school on a fully functional 30-acre campus near downtown Albuquerque, NM that includes classroom buildings, an auditorium, arts facilities, and gymnasiums. In addition, the school employs a dedicated and talented middle school teaching staff and is in the second year of an innovative iPad program.

Teach-Intern appointments are ten month (August to June) positions.  Interns receive a monthly stipend along with living quarters and meals in the school cafeteria.  Teaching areas open to interns are the Sciences, English, History, Religion & Mathematics.
