Middle School Director

Menaul School in Albuquerque, New Mexico, is seeking an experienced Middle School Director who will oversee the expansion of the current middle school and the reshaping of its mission and structure for the fall of 2015. The general nature of this future middle school will be based on a holistic, values-oriented, project-based, and student-centered foundation, including expanded health, physical education, and arts components.

During the 2014-2015 academic year, a dedicated group of teachers has acted as a Middle School Transition Team and has developed some structural features and philosophical principles of this new middle school. The Middle School Director will further develop the middle school based on the groundwork already accomplished by this team.

Required qualifications:

  • The energy and creativity to assist the current administration in making this dream a reality
  • Ten years’ experience as a middle school teacher
  • A master’s degree or higher

Preferred qualifications:

  • Three years’ experience as a middle school administrator
  • Experience starting or working in a middle school similar to the one outlined above
  • The ability to teach two sections of a middle school class
  • Experience supporting innovative, 21st century education initiatives
  • Experience establishing a non-traditional daily schedule, structuring multi-disciplinary courses, and assisting faculty members in planning project-based learning.

DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE
Menaul School is seeking a detail-oriented individual to support the school’s advancement efforts in the following areas:  fundraising, including annual and capital giving; donor cultivation and engagement; social media and special events.  The Development Associate will report directly to the Director of Institutional Advancement and work closely with the Relationship Associate.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Donor communication
• Maintain/update donor database
• Create donor reports as needed by staff and volunteers
• Donor thank you letters
• End of year donation/tax letters

Website
• Add, edit and upload articles, program information and general school information
• Update all blog entries, sports scores, calendar, lunch menu, etc.
• Post and upload job postings to school website and other appropriate venues

Editor/Writer
• Work with Institutional Advancement team on Menaul publications
• Edit and create documents and publications for the Office of Institutional Advancement, the Head of School’s Office and others as requested
• Write and monitor grant proposals

Business Office
• Work with Business Office to ensure accuracy of donation entries
• Reconcile numbers monthly with the Business Office

Community Partners
• Oversee programs, including, but not limited to, Box Tops, Labels, Smith’s, Albertsons, Target and AmazonSmile
• Thank and recognize supporters
• Communicate with and support volunteers who help with these programs

Church Relations
• Coordinate church visits for staff
• Coordinate church outreach

Additional Responsibilities:
• General office duties and support as assigned
• Participate in administrative support staff group to assist with phone and reception coverage
• Continuing education to advance skill set
• Update electronic sign as requested
• Serve as Notary Public for the school

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor’s degree
• Experience in fundraising and grant writing
• Strong computer skills, ability to use existing technology to achieve desired results and proficiency in MS Word and Excel 
• Knowledge of donor databases
• Excellent organizational and analytical skills and the ability to multi-task and meet aggressive deadlines
• Excellent written and verbal skills for effective communication
• Ability to effectively articulate and live out Menaul School’s mission

Menaul Upper School Science Teacher

Menaul School, an independent day and boarding school for grades 6-12 with a rich Presbyterian heritage, is seeking a highly qualified candidate to join its Upper School Science faculty for the 2015-2016 academic year. Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in science and a dedication to cultivating the minds, bodies, and spirits of adolescents. Also required is the desire to teach comprehensive and sequenced Biology, Chemistry, and/or Physics courses using demonstrations and experiments extensively. A master’s degree and teaching experience are distinctly preferred, as is a willingness to mentor and advise students and sponsor student activities. Additional expectations of the job include an eagerness to work with other faculty members in collaborative efforts, the willingness to learn and frequently use the school’s digital software program and resources, the ability to reach a variety of adolescent minds, and the willingness to become part of a community.

Menaul School Part-time English as a Second Language Instructor

Menaul School, an independent day and boarding school for grades 6-12 with a rich Presbyterian heritage, is seeking a highly qualified candidate to join its Upper School English as a Second Language (ESL) faculty as a part-time teacher for the 2015-2016 academic year. Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in ESL or the equivalent and a dedication to cultivating the minds, bodies, and spirits of adolescents. Also required is the desire to teach comprehensive and successful ESL courses using interactive and innovative methods. The successful candidate will teach two to three classes daily, ranging from Beginning ESL to ESL English Composition. The position may include other responsibilities, such as participating in the school’s sheltered instruction program or leading activities with our boarding students. A master’s degree, teaching experience, and fluency in Mandarin are distinctly preferred. Menaul School Teach-Intern Program

Menaul School is seeking recent college graduates or graduate students interested in working under supervision to develop the varied skills required of secondary boarding school teachers.

The Menaul School Teach-Intern Program offers as wide an exposure as possible to all aspects of life at Menaul School.  Interns will have the opportunity to participate in mission-critical projects at an urban, international boarding school in the Southwest while serving on the front lines as they participate in the unique and exciting work of fostering students from across the globe. 

The Intern’s responsibilities will include supervised teaching under the guidance of an experienced member of the faculty and assisting with or observation of other classes.  Interns also help coach athletics, assist in dormitory supervision and activities and participate in other areas of school life commensurate with their interests and talents.

We are looking for 3-5 caring and dynamic young people to participate in an intense, 4 week language and character development camp for international students.  Qualified applicants will befriend and serve international students as peer instructors of American English and culture. 

About S.E.E.D.

S.E.E.D. (Summer Experiential English Development) is a highly interactive, English language and American culture immersion program for International students who have a strong desire to be challenged intellectually and personally.  Program participants will be fully engaged in the English language from morning to evening from classroom learning to teambuilding activities to outdoor adventures to interacting and observing life in an American home!  This program aims to reflect the mission of Menaul School- helping students succeed in body, mind, and spirit.

Responsibilities:

  • Be committed daily to encourage, guide, challenge and teach 2-4 international students for the duration of the 4 week camp.
  • Be available and willing to assist with classroom or teambuilding instruction to a group of 12-25 students.
  • Set a positive example by actively participating in all the learning activities
  • Work hard to assist your students in improving their oral and written English skills

Necessary Qualifications:

  • 18 years or older
  • Exhibits a love for mentoring and working with teenagers
  • Native English speaker
  • Displays a genuine desire to grow personally and to serve others.
