Special Report: Faith at Menaul School in 2009

September 4, 2009, the Rev. Buddy Monahan, Menaul’s chaplain, reminded the student body in morning chapel that people they knew were suffering or troubled or fearful. “Is there anyone who needs our prayers today?” he asked. “If you want to lift someone in prayer, please raise your hand.” Two hands were shyly elevated about shoulder height. “My mother,” said one teenager. “Someone who needs a job,” offered another.

Menaul School Earns Independent Schools Association of the Southwest (ISAS) Accreditation
Earlier this week, Menaul School was elected to membership by the Independent Schools Association of the Southwest (ISAS) having met the requirements necessary for Association accreditation.

“This is a great affirmation for Menaul School!”  said Lindsey Gilbert, Head of School, upon learning of the accreditation while in attendance at the ISAS Heads of School Meeting in Dallas, TX.  “ISAS is a southwest regional accrediting body which has recognized the quality of our program and school.  The Association has rigorous standards and a demanding accreditation process that require schools to put forth sustained effort to achieve. Menaul has been working on the goal of ISAS accreditation for a number of years and we are thrilled to be recognized by such a quality organization.”

Menaul Board of Trustees Chair, Julie Weaks Gutierrez, agrees: “This a landmark event for Menaul School and is the culmination of many years of work by faculty, staff, administration and trustees.  It validates what all.......

Design Academy @ Menaul School

Design Academy @ Menaul School is a new elective offering in partnership with Menaul School and Design Plus a local architecture firm and Dr. Ann Taylor, a UNM Architecture Professor.  These classes will introduce the basic concepts of design and will be particularly of interest to students interested in careers where design is important such as engineering, architecture, art, design, graphics, computer design or building and construction.  This year two elective introductory classes will be offered but a full "academy" is being developed.  Please read the attached documents for more information.

Menaul School Arts Program

Entering new classes at Menaul for the first time, students typically arrive with certain perceptions. Chemistry will be hard…English will mean writing projects…art will be fun. “Everyone assumes that the process in art—from the idea to the finished product—is always fun,” said Jennifer Hellermann, who teaches drawing and painting for both middle school and upper school. “There are certainly joys in creating art, but it usually involves a lot of work, problem solving, and even frustration.”
