Boys Basketball Team Progress in State Tournament

The Boys and Girls Varisty Basketball teams played extremely well for the first round of State Tournament games this past weekend. The Girls March 4th game resulted in defeat, with Menaul 54 and Jal Highschool 71. The 2010- 2011 Girls Varsity team has set the record for Menaul School as being the first girls basketball team to go to the State Tournament and become District Champions. Though their season has ended the Girls team expressed true sportsmanship that will undoubtedly be a key motivator for generations of Menaul School Girls Basketball teams!
As for the Boys Varsity Basketball team, the game plays on! The first State Tournament game on March 5th resulted in a win, with Menaul 63 and Logan Highschool 52. This is the first time since 2000 that the Boys have gone to the State Tournament.

Boys and Girls Basketball Teams head to state tournament.

Both our boys and girls basketball teams went into the district tournament with the title ‘District Champs’ as a result of their regular season district games. This was a great achievement for these teams, but it put a lot of pressure on them to perform well in the District Tournament. Each of the teams handled the pressure well. They won their semi-final games, taking them to the tournament finals. The girls took on Alamo Navajo on Friday, beating them 55-49 in the championship game, while the boys beat To’Hajiilee 56-37 to take the trophy.

Winning that tournament helped earn the boys and girls a #8 seed in the State Tournament, and home court advantage for the first round. This Friday, March 4, our girls will play the Jal Panthers at 6 p.m. at Menaul; the boys will play the following night, March 5, at Menaul against the Logan Longhorns at 7 p.m. Come out and support Menaul in the 2010-2011 Sate Basketball Tournament!

Girls Basketball

The girls basketball team has gotten off to a fast start with 4 wins and no losses. They have put forth great effort even though we have low participation numbers. They will be competing in our annual Bugg Light Invitational with hopes of bring home the championship trophy.
